TeganTegan McClean, Executive Officer

Tegan joined SASTA in August 2017, bringing over 15 years of experience in events and teacher associations. If you have attended one of SASTA’s major conferences, you have probably seen Tegan, but only briefly, because standing still has never really been part of the job description.

After seven years sharing an office with former Executive Officer Kate, Tegan knows SASTA inside and out. Stepping into the Executive Officer role felt like a natural progression, built on years of hands on experience, collaboration and a genuine commitment to the organisation and its members. And yes, Kate is still on speed dial!

Over the years, Tegan has led SASTA’s communications, marketing and major events, keeping members connected through e-news, newsletters, social media, the blog and conferences across the state. She continues to oversee marketing and communications alongside her Executive Officer responsibilities, balancing strategy, governance and day to day operations with the creative and practical work she has always loved.

In the office, Tegan brings positive energy and a solutions focused mindset. She is quick to celebrate wins, big or small, whether it is a successful event, a strong social media campaign or simply clearing a long to do list.

Outside of work, life stays busy with her young son and two energetic kelpies who ensure there is never a dull moment. A big fan of road trips and travel, Tegan is often planning the next adventure. If she is not in the office or exploring somewhere new, you will likely find her at school pick up or on the sidelines of one of her son’s many sporting activities.

Rebecca 2Rebecca Cooke, Office Manager

Rebecca has been at SASTA for more than nine years, having joined the team after holding a similar role in another not-for-profit association in Adelaide for nearly 15 years prior.

Here at the SASTA office, Rebecca endeavours to ensure the SASTA staff has enough snacks to get through each day and enough toilet paper to get through a pandemic!

When she’s not taking care of the staff, Rebecca packs your orders, takes care of the accounts, assists at workshop and event registration, coordinates the Oliphant Science Awards school coordinators, and organises a mean seating chart to make sure the Oliphant Science Awards prize winners are presented with their prizes in the correct, precise order!

Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys Pilates, playing Netball and catching up with friends when not in the company of her husband, two very (excessively) talkative cats and one crazy turtle.

She’s always happy to help wherever possible, so feel free to email Rebecca directly to office@sasta.asn.au.

Isabelle Photo 3Isabelle Chalmers, Membership and Events Coordinator

Isabelle is the friendly face (or voice) you’ll meet when reaching out to SASTA. She joined the team at the start of 2023 and has quickly become the go-to person for all things membership-related. Whether it’s answering questions, helping you join, or ensuring your experience with SASTA is a positive one, Isabelle is always happy to assist.

Isabelle provides support across SASTA’s operations, helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From coordinating the judging process for the Oliphant Science Awards to assisting with social media activities and organising merchandise, she handles a little bit of everything.

When it comes to events, Isabelle lends a helping hand to make sure everything runs smoothly—whether it’s a major conference or a smaller networking session. If you’re attending, you might spot her at the registration desk, ready to greet you with a warm smile.

Outside of work, Isabelle enjoys exploring the local food and drink scene with friends, browsing local markets, and catching live music whenever she can. At home, she’s kept company by her three cats and loves unwinding with a good movie, TV show, or book. With her down-to-earth nature and approachable attitude, Isabelle is a valued member of the SASTA team.

Rachel Pillar SmallRachel Pillar, Education Officer

Rachel is the newest team member and started work as SASTA’s Education Officer in January 2026. She works part-time teaching Chemistry and Physics at Kangaroo Island Community Education and part-time supporting our Science Education Community from home, with regular visits to the SASTA office to help manage the supply of chocolate, amongst other things!

As passionate and experienced teacher, Rachel understands the needs of science educators, especially those who live and/or work outside of the metropolitan area. She loves to meet new people and chat about their experiences, perspectives and ideas so she can help improve and champion science education. She also loves to encourage members to share their wealth of skills and expertise, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself persuaded into presenting a workshop, writing a blog post or volunteering at the Oliphant Science Awards!

Outside of work, Rachel is busy with her two daughters and with Jupiter the mini dachshund. She loves spending time baking (sourdough banana bread and pancakes are family favourites), going to the beach, catching up with friends and learning Kyokushin karate, where she’s training for her yellow belt.

Whether she’s working from the SASTA office or joining staff meetings from home, Rachel’s friendly, bubbly nature and sense of humour help create a positive atmosphere.
